General Questions

01 Why Fiber Optics?

Fiber optics is a technology where laser-generated pulses of light are transmitted over hair-thin strands of glass fiber. Because light travels faster and has a vastly larger bandwidth than radio frequency transmission over copper fiber optics make everything faster. Uploading, downloading, image quality and phone clarity are all improved by the use of fiber optics.

02 What do other communication utilities use?

Traditional communications companies in the majority of cases use some amount of copper lines to transmit their signal to your business. Specifically, copper is susceptible to heat, weather and many other environmental factors, such as electromagnetic interference, which can interfere with your services. So, many weather conditions may affect the signal arriving at your business, causing outages and slower downloading speeds.

the network of most other utilities consists of a mix of aerial and underground cable. Aerial has obvious issues, pole hits, lighting, dove season. And depending on how deep the underground cable is placed causes it to is susceptible to damage. RST’s 100% fiber optic network is all underground, typically at a depth greater than 7 feet. This usually insures that our facilities are beneath other utilities. Thanks to its speed, clarity and reliability, RST Fiber is the best way to deliver Internet, phone and video to your business, plain and simple. The future is here. Get connected today.

03 Why does my business really need such high speed?

There are two types of businesses: those that want to stay the same, and those that want to move forward. Modern day business is increasingly more dependent on reliable, fast data connections. In addition to everyday functions such as email and possibly interfacing with offsite locations, new applications such as video conferencing require sufficient bandwidth in both directions, which RST provides. Ever try and upload a large file (CAD drawings, photos, etc.) from your business? Well now imagine doing it in seconds rather than minutes or hours.

Does RST Internet require a modem? The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that RST provides to deliver our service takes the place of a traditional modem.

04 If my power goes out, will RST Phone still work?

RST provides a complete spectrum of business telephone services, from single lines, to more specialized connection to your existing PBX or our hosted “cloud based” VOIP PBX solutions. We’ve installed a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in conjunction with our equipment at your business, which will provide power for RST’s electronics for up to eight hours. So, as long as your power is restored within eight hours, your RST Internet, Phone and Video services will remain operational. Keep in mind that you are still dependent on having power available for your devices, such as your internal telephone system, phones, data router, computers, etc. unless you provide UPS powering to this equipment.

05 Anything about video solution?

RST Fiber Optics brings fiber optics all the way to your home, which means that you have access to virtually unlimited bandwidth. The result is incredibly fast Internet speeds available and virtually unlimited TV options including incredible picture quality. Typically the video programming we provide is transmitted as it is received from the programmer, we do not use “compression” typically used by other providers to pack as many channels as they can into the bandwidth they have available. RST Fiber brings fiber optics all the way to your business, which means that you have access to virtually unlimited bandwidth. The result is not only incredibly fast Internet speeds but a tremendous amount of available bandwidth for video. Typically the high definition video programming we provide is transmitted as it is received from the broadcaster or programmer. We do not use “compression,” which is typically used by other providers to pack as many channels as they can into the bandwidth they have available. The result is video as you have never seen it before.
